A thousand emotions in one click

Photographs can never be missing on their wedding day. And to immortalize to perfection the most salient, exciting and fun moments of that day it is always good to rely on an industry professional. But how does a photo shoot for a wedding actually take place? What are the tips to give to the couple? This and much more was discussed with two photographers, specialized in services for ceremonies, comparing their different modus operandi.

2016 trends in your sector

In my opinion there is no single trend and perhaps none exists. The only certainty is that the reportage and the “storytelling” are flaunted to the right and left, but on closer inspection there is no big difference between the two; at the same time, in my opinion, the task of a good matrimonialist is simply always that of telling the wedding event well through images.

In recent years, what do you think has changed in the performance of a wedding photo shoot?

With the advent of digital there is a tendency to make too many photos but, in reality, what matters is the quality and the ability to capture “the moment that everything tells”. In my opinion, today we have lost sight of the value of this fundamental concept that we should be able to make the client perceive.

Compared to a normal photo shoot, what are the wedding service needs?

The same. Every report, of any topic taken, has the same needs: you must always be at the top, ready, reactive, etc. Moreover, a marriage has some particularities that one must know and in a certain sense love.

How do you create the poses to be photographed in a wedding? How can the spouses assume the postures that characterize the key moments of the ceremony?

I do not create poses, I observe, I see and shoot and above all, when possible, I play a lot with the spouses

Four poses that can never be missing in a marriage.

There are no poses, but rather fundamental moments, those must never be missing and a professional knows it.

How do you establish the relationship with the spouses? How many appointments do you make with couples?

I establish a relationship with dialogue and good humor without ever setting a limit to the number of meetings.

What information do you find useful to know before a wedding? Are there any key questions for the spouses?

I try to get in touch with the couple and let me tell their story, like I was a friend, I give them a service doing my job but at the same time I participate in the party and the happiness of my clients.

What do the spouses prefer for the photos? Photo pose, reportage or other?

Everyone has their needs and their tastes, of course, but in general I recommend avoiding static poses or, better, spontaneity. In any case, regardless of the trends of the moment, I think it is important to have their own style that is recognizable among many.

Is there a time and / or shutter limit?

There are no limits, but only the desire to achieve a goal that I agree with the couple.

Have you ever had a marriage between foreign spouses or a photo shoot abroad? For these uses a different approach or marriage is the same everywhere and for all?

I have experienced marriages of ethnicity “mixed” between Italians and foreigners, but I would say that does not change much, except for special rituals in the celebration of the ceremony and customs typical of their land.

What are your preparations before going to a wedding? Do you have a ritual?

When I go out for a job I always put the same discolored sign on the study door. Other than that, I do not have a proper ritual. It is only necessary to do things properly and never tire of checking and double-checking everything. Organization is essential!

Among the marriages you’ve photographed is someone you carry in your heart?

All!

Can you tell us a particular or extravagant request from your customers?

I do not know, I would rather say that every marriage is “particular” and my work is the most beautiful for me, precisely for this reason.

Can you tell us an amusing anecdote that happened during the course of your work?

One of them comes to mind: it was summer and I was at the reception villa, in full sun, ready to resume the bride’s entry from the gate over her chariot. After thirty minutes of waiting the carriage was slow to arrive and I was beginning to worry. I could not move because, if I were distracted, I would have missed the right moment. Fortunately, soon the carriage arrives; then I came to know the reason for the delay: the horse had stopped and no longer mentioned moving, the driver had come down and only after repeated attempts had managed to restart it, clogging the traffic for some time.

In such a competitive sector, do you think you can distinguish yourself from others?

Quality, punctuality, transparency and information.

Thanks Riccardo!
